Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) is pleased to announce the Newcastle Permanent Coach of the Month for May 2016 across the zones.
Football enriches character, intelligence, coordination and skill and each season, brave men and women step up to the plate and take on the task of helping our young athletes reach their potential: The Coach.
“Coaches are integral to the success of our sport and vital to ensuring that players enjoy a positive experience within our game. Coaches have a direct impact on whether players continue within football and it’s important that they recognised for their contribution and the important role that they play,” Community Football Manager, Peter Haynes said.
Each month, one registered coach from each of NNSWF’s seven Member Zones will be awarded the Newcastle Permanent Community Coach of the Month award.
Each winner will receive a Newcastle Permanent Community Coaching kit consisting of 6 balls, 20 markers, 10 bibs and a whistle, as well as a polo shirt and cap, to assist in fulfilling their roles at their respective club.
At the end of the season, each Zone will nominate one community coach from their pool of winners, to represent their Zone for the opportunity to be named “Newcastle Permanent Community Coach of the Year” announced at NNSWF annual awards night.
“Each of the March winners has brought a lot of enthusiasm, support and dedication to their team’s improvement and worked hard to ensure their players enjoy their time within football,” Haynes said.
Newcastle Permanent Acting Chief Executive Officer, Shaun Hassall echoes Haynes sentiments and applauds those who received the award.
“Newcastle Permanent is proud to support community football across Northern NSW and it is great to be able to recognise the efforts of a local coach who shows such dedication to developing their team,” Hassall said.

The May Newcastle Permanent Coach of the Month Award recipients from across each of its seven Member Zones are as follows:

Paul has been coaching my son’s team for 4 years and had also coached the premier side last year. He is also now one of the coaches in LHFC Academy, ALL of this is voluntary! He has such a passion for football and his dedication in seeing the young kids improve and up skill is amazing.
Rhys Dawes
Bulahdelah Soccer Club
Football Mid North Coast
Rhys lives locally in Bulahdelah. He does not have any children playing soccer yet (he has a 2-year-old and one on the way) but has always wanted to give back to the sport that he got so much out of growing up. Not only did he learn great skills but he formed great friendships along the way and these are the benefits of soccer he wants the children of Bulahdelah to be able to experience.
He is coaching two of our club’s teams – Our travelling under 14’s team and one of our Town Competition Teams. He provides extra training sessions when requested by the kids and he invites kids from any team to come along and practice – not just his own team.
Rhys is very passionate about teaching kids to enjoy the game whether you win or lose and promotes the importance of playing as part of a team and having fun. He does not tolerate bad sportsmanship and bullying behaviour. He encourages all abilities to have a go – in fact, he has a child with a learning disability on the Under 14 team. He makes sure that equipment is well maintained and available at all times and has excellent communication skills concerning the Club Committee, volunteers, players and parents. He attends committee meetings and has expressed his ideas on how he would like to improve the club and how to get more registrations in the future.
Nothing is ever too hard for Rhys and he is always there to help when asked. He has even sponsored his own Town Comp team. We could not ask for a more dedicated person to coach our children. As we are a small town with little in the way of sporting clubs and activities his involvement is invaluable. Not only does he have years of experience playing soccer he is passionate about sharing his positive experiences with the youth of our town and making sure kids have fun while playing soccer at the same time. He gives up his spare time to travel to games when he doesn’t even have a child in the team so that says what kind of person he is and I would really like to see him recognised for his efforts.
Rodney Landers

Rodney coaches two teams while working full-time and raising a family. He is always willing to help our club out in any way. Rodney is nothing but an asset to RTSC, not only does Rodney coach our all age girls. But he is also coaching our U15 team along with offering to take the field himself on a Friday night! Our club was a little late getting the ball rolling this year, and we were quite down on numbers for our all age girls. We handed Rodney a team sheet last week with only 9 players, straight away he was on the phone recruiting players. Tonight at his first training session had 15 girls signed registered and ready to train!

Stuart is a young man who hails from England and was originally recruited by the Singleton Strikers and brought out to Singleton in 2015 to play semi-professionally for the Singleton Strikers in the NEWFM First Division which he ended up falling in love with the Club and decided to stay.
Stuart has always wanted to give back to the game he loves and has played all his life, so when the coaching position for our Ladies team became available early this year, Stuart jumped at the opportunity.
He has formal coaching qualifications from his professional days in the UK, and his enthusiasm for the job is second to none.
The girls (some of who have never played football before) are absolutely loving the training sessions Stuart runs and their improvement even in this relatively short time period has been outstanding. Stuart has been very proactive in helping those girls new to the game to understand not only the laws of the game but also the spirit in which the game should be played. He always advocates fair play and respect for the opposition and especially for match officials.
Equally impressive is the way Stuart has engaged the Ladies team into other facets of the club. The Ladies now have a team member on the Club committee, they contribute to Club fundraising efforts, they assist with manning the canteen, they have assisted with the Club coaching clinic, and they are proud supporters at other Club games. In short, they are now truly part of the Singleton Strikers Football Club.
Ian Tressider

Coaches are hard to come by, good coaches even rarer. Ian has dedicated his time to coaching since this team started in U6’s. This being his 7th-year straight coaching, this year he is taking the team into their first year of competition games. Ian has demonstrated patience, leadership, dedication and passion over the past 6 years. The kids respect and respond to him as a coach. He is always fair and grounded and we think deserves some recognition for the great job he has done and continues to do.
Mark Hamilton

As Vice President of our club, I get to see many coaches in action at training and on the weekend at games. This year I have even taken on coaching of a U7 team myself. Over the last couple of weeks, I have had the privilege of observing Mark Hamilton coaching our U7 Castles. The support he provides the kids is fantastic, in particular I watched him pull his team together after their game on the weekend and sit down for a team talk. He gave each player a handshake, he spoke of how proud he was of all the players, he talked about the things they did right and he asked everyone if they had fun which they answered a resounding ‘yes’ to. I know that after watching Mark in action I will take a lot of things he does and use them myself.
Mark is also the coach of our senior Division 3 team and he is a volunteer on our committee. He really is a tremendous asset to our club and he deserves to be recognised for the work he does.

Jesse has shown a great interest, passion and commitment towards the kids. As a young coach, Jesse is a great role model for the up and coming players. He brings knowledge, enthusiasm and respect to the team, with an emphasis on team work. Thank you for taking the time to mentor the future superstars.
