2019 Set To Be Another Record Year in Female Football Participation in Northern NSW

February 22nd, 2019

2019 is set to prove itself as the biggest year-to-date for women’s football in Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) and Australia.

Football still remains the number one participation sport across the country and throughout Northern New South Wales and the ever-increasing volume of female participation is certainly reflective of this.

In 2018 alone, NNSWF experienced a 4.66% growth in female participation from season 2017.

Northern NSW Football Community Football Manager Peter Haynes said female participation in football is a key focus for the sport right across the region.

“It is an exciting year for the Women’s Game, the Westfield Matildas are hoping to win the World Cup in France and there has never been more opportunities for women and girls to be part of the game,” Haynes said.

“Locally, along with our seven Member Zones we have developed a number of initiatives and programs to encourage further female participation in the game.

“Whether that be participating in girls only or mixed leagues, coaching, refereeing and volunteering, there’s a place for everyone regardless of gender, experience or skill level.

“Currently 23% of our registered players are women and girls; and we’re working hard to increase this percentage with the hope of achieving upwards of 25% by end of 2019,” Haynes concluded.

Registrations are now open for the 2019 Football Season.
