Medical Workshop a Benefit for all Levels

January 21st, 2016

FFA’s commitment to the growth of football in all areas across all levels of the game has been illustrated by the inaugural Member Federation (MF) Chief Medical Officer’s (CMO) Annual Medical Workshop.

The workshop was recently convened and chaired by Football Federation Australia (FFA) Head of Medical, Doctor Mark Jones, at FFA headquarters in Sydney.

The nine MF CMOs in attendance at the workshop are responsible for medical matters at both a community and elite level within their respective football federations, as well as assisting FFA with the dissemination of medical policies and strategies to the community.

“Bringing the Chief Medical Officers from the various Member Federations together was a great opportunity to share ideas and processes, but also to provide them with further knowledge and ways they can assist participants at all levels of football,” said Dr Jones.

“It’s important that FFA is able to support and help upskill those working at Member Federations in order to keep growing and improving all aspects of football within Australia. The medical area is one of these key areas.”

The workshop comprised guest presentations covering topics relevant to the community such as concussion, FIFA 11+ and ACL injury prevention, and musculoskeletal screening procedures for elite Member Federation competitions/programs.

The day culminated with a presentation on research presently occurring at one of the Member Federations as an example of the proactive measures being undertaken at a community level to improve player welfare.
