Preparing for Coach Education in 2019

August 28th, 2018

After the success of the 2018 Coach Education calendar, Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) has now published the 2019 Coach Education calendar.

The calendar sees 123 coaching courses and workshops delivered throughout Northern NSW.

NNSWF Coach Education Coordinator Tom Oldaker said “we have already published the 2019 Coach Education calendar as we wanted to maintain the momentum we created in 2018.”

Oldaker continued, “coaches are still active within clubs so we wanted to get the calendar ready so coaches can begin to plan in advance which courses they wish to attend in 2019.”

To encourage more coaches to attend the Game Training and Senior Training courses, these courses will now be delivered as a one day course instead of the usual two days.

“Registration numbers for coaches attending the Game and Senior Training courses were lower in 2018 than in previous years. Research suggests that time is the biggest reason why coaches do not attend a course. By offering these courses in one day will hopefully encourage more coaches to attend,” Oldaker said.

The key learning outcomes of the accredited courses are for coaches to develop good coaching behaviours through self-reflection.

“People learn by doing and the more coaches coach within their own environment the more they will develop. By providing coaches with the tools to self-reflect they are in charge of their own learning and development,” Oldaker said.

The follow up process and the support coaches receive after they have attended a course will be a big focus of NNSWF in 2019. NNSWF aim to provide post-course support to coaches through the Club Coach Coordinator (CCC) program, maintaining regular contact and additional workshop opportunities.

For any coaches looking to complete a course in 2018 there are courses available to attend in October.
