People aged 50 years and over are being invited to take part in Northern NSW Football’s (NNSWF) exciting Walking Football pilot program.
The pilot program will be launched at the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility on Monday, March 16 and run for four consecutive weeks. Each session will start at 6pm and finish by 7pm. Walking football is a low-impact, team-based exercise utilising the defined ‘Walking Football Rules and Formats. It is a non-contact form of the game with players always having one foot on the ground.Matches are played with modified 5v5 or 6v6 formats on smaller pitches with shortened game time.
Walking Football aims to provide participants physical and mental health benefits, social connectedness and promotion of the benefits of ongoing physical activity.
“We’re super excited to get this pilot program up and running… or up and walking in this case,” NNSWF MiniRoos Development Officer Alex Lowe said.
“We’re keen for as many people as possible to come along and enjoy a different version of the game.”
Should the pilot program prove to be a success, NNSWF will look to implement a further eight-week program, which may include implementing a weekday morning session for retirees looking for an opportunity to remain active and social interaction. The total cost of the pilot program is $45.
