Top young boys congregate for April Talent ID Camp

April 18th, 2019

This week, Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) hosted a Talent ID Camp to identify top players in the 13 and 14 Years age groups for boys.

Players from all over the region came together to put their best foot forward with a view to being selected into the NNSWF teams for the FFA National Youth Championships later in the year.

In the 13s age group, a number of talented regional players featured from Northern Inland, Mid North Coast, North Coast and Far North Coast, while the 14s age group also saw players from these regions as well as the local players which are a part of the Metro Talent Support Pathway (TSP).

Technical Advisor Leo Bertos, said it was great to have all the players back into the camp again as well as to see how they are performing before he and the other technical staff select players for the squad.

“The players looked like they really enjoyed the challenge and this also helped to give us more of a true assessment of where the players are currently at,” Bertos said.

“With the talent we have witnessed, it will be a challenge for us to select final squads in both age groups which is a credit to the work Technical Directors and coaches have been doing around the region.

“From the 13s age group, we will select players to come back down in July for a final camp with the Metro TSP players to then select the final squad for Nationals.

“From the 14s age group, we will be selecting the final squad and try to use the camp in July to participate in a tournament in Sydney for this group in preparation for Nationals.”

Next week, NNSWF will also host another camp for identified 14s and 15 Years Girls. This will be the first time this year NNSWF will be taking squads of players from all over the region to participate in the Westfield National Youth Championships for Girls in July.

“It is important we can continue to provide opportunities for both male and female talented players of these age groups, outside of the Jets Academy with the opportunity to be identified for future national teams,” Bertos concluded.
