What’s Your Club doing for rebel Female Football Week 2019?

June 4th, 2019

This month, Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) will host rebel Female Football Week (FFW) on Saturday 22 June until Sunday 30 June 2019 and invites all Member Clubs to join in celebrating all things female.

A nationwide initiative by Football Federation (FFA), rebel Female Football Week celebrates the immense growth of women’s football at all levels of the game and acknowledges and promotes the important role women play in developing football.

In 2018, throughout Northern NSW alone, female participants represented 23% of registered players, 9% of registered referees and 14% of registered coaches.

NNSWF’s Head of Football Development Pete Haynes says the 2019 campaign focus is to highlight the accomplishments and milestones women and girls have and continue to achieve within our game.

“Over the past five (5) years, female participation has increased by 28% throughout the region and we’d like to see this to continue to grow.

“NNSWF has had eight local players in Women’s National Squads including, Gemma Simon and Emily van Egmond in the Westfield Matildas, Annalee Grove and Tessa Tamplin in the Young Matildas and Josie Morley, Kirsty Fenton, Ruby Jones and Teagan Douglas in  Junior Matildas squads.”

Haynes states NNSWF are not just leading the way in the level of our female football players, but there have been also a number of females off-the-field being recognised as well.

“Earlier this year, Joey Powell from Westlawn Tigers Football Club in North Coast Football was recognised as FFA’s Community Player of the Year at the National rebel Female Football awards.

“Throughout the year, there are a number of our female community volunteers, coaches and referees being recognised in the Newcastle Permanent’s Community Awards Program.

“We encourage all clubs to get involved in Female Football Week and recognise the females within their club who contribute to the game.”
