Sunday 13th August saw Maitland Junior FC hold their annual post season Under 8 gala day. The day saw 198 players representing 10 clubs from Newcastle and Hunter Valley Football competing for the Maitland Junior FC “Fair Play” trophy.
Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) ALDI MiniRoos Football Development Officer Tom Oldaker was on hand to add to the gala day fun by taking the ALDI MiniRoos inflatable shooting target and providing free fruit and sunscreen for the players, along with prize giveaways courtesy of NNSWF Official Partner in Community Football, Newcastle Permanent.
With the games being played for fun, Maitland Junior FC came up with the great idea to award a point scoring system based on fair play which allowed teams to score points and compete for the Fair Play trophy. Coaches and parents of each team were awarded points for continued encouragement of both teams. Teams were scored on their fair play with team work and player involvement being rewarded.
“Awarding points to teams, coaches and parents for fair play was a great initiative shown by Maitland Junior FC.” Oldaker said.
“The learning outcomes of ALDI MiniRoos football are players will develop their football skills by having fun with lots of touches of the ball and lots of encouragement from parents and coaches. Maitland’s fair play initiative reaffirms what ALDI MiniRoos football is all about and delivers the right messages,” Oldaker concluded.
The day was a massive success with all teams, coaches and parents supporting the initiative and displaying lots of fair play throughout the whole day.
NNSWF would like to thank Evelyn Stonham and Maitland Junior FC for the initiative shown and providing all involved with a great football experience.
