20th October 2023 we held our Annual Dinner and Presentation Night, a night for our Club volunteers to sit back and enjoy a night after a tough season. Premier, Grand Final Winners and Grand Finalists plaques for the 2023 season were awarded to our clubs for their teams’ efforts on the field. The night also gives Newcastle Football a chance to recognise volunteers, coaches, referees and clubs that are making a difference in our game.
Newcastle Football 2023 Major Award Winners:
Club of the Year –
This award gives us the chance to recognise a club that has put in effort to not only build as a club but also enhance their wider community. They have been dedicated to football within their local region and have grown by 117% in the past year. They have provided opportunities for both males and females to participate at their club, including playing a key role in getting the O30 Women’s competition of the ground and being big promoters of the Women’s World Cup. The club also aims to assist the wider football community. They have always offered to assist other clubs to host fixtures, and year after year host one or more legs of the final series for Newcastle Football, some years at very last minute. With a relatively new committee, their devotion to football is evident.

Gail Morris Award
Gail held many strategic roles within her Newcastle Football (NPSSA) association with member Clubs, Volunteers, Referees, making many friends and acquaintances as she was a ‘loveable’ character.
So why this award, how do you choose someone, under what criteria is a person considered; or do you go with your ‘inner feelings’?
The recipient of this award has been involved in their club for a numerous of years, they have been a player, a coach, and a committee member, while being a parent and a full-time employee. They have attended meetings and always offered to assist new and experienced volunteers from not only their own club but those from other clubs as well. The past few seasons have not been easy on our clubs, and this club even through the struggle they preserved with grace and determination all from the guidance of our award recipient.

Volunteer of the Year
There is no doubt that each club has their dedicated and hard working volunteer amongst their members.
We are very lucky at Newcastle football that all our clubs are full of volunteers that complete the above and without you our game would not run so we thank you. This year we would like to recognise one individual who has made a difference at their club, year after year they have been a valuable assist to Maryland Fletcher.

Coach of the Year
This up-and-coming coach, with only a few years into coaching and are always eager to learn more and develop further as a coach and mentor. They have been a positive role model for their team and the rest of the club. After overcoming a few barriers during the season, their supportive nature, and their commitment to developing their team and players showed with a Premiership and Grand Final Win.

Referee of the Year
Our referee of the year is a valued member of the Newcastle Football Referees. He has been encouraging to younger players and has demonstrated courage and grown in confidence in the past year. This referee’s development has been on show this year, from being a linesman in 2022 to running centres in 2023. He is always available to assist the association and when others have withdrawn from fixtures he has stepped up and covered more games than he was required to do.This referee is a delight to have at our grounds and with his commitment to development as a referee, Newcastle Football is excited to see what the future holds for him.
2023 Referee of the Year: Liam Kiss
Outstanding Contribution to Refereeing
This award is designed to recognize an outstanding member of our association for all their hard work during the season. It will be presented to someone that has had a valuable contribution to Newcastle Football. This person stepped up during a difficult time and showed leadership and commitment to help better all referees in our zone. He was registered as a referee but became a mentor/an assessor/ a referee and all-round valuable assist to Newcastle Football. We would like to thank him for everything he has done this season.
